Kitten food

You can offer your kitten either dry food, canned food, or both. Be sure to choose food which is designed for kittens. They require a diet which is especially rich in protein, calcium, and other nutrients. Cat food that is for adults is not sufficient. Your young cat will need the enhanced kitten food until he or she is a year old. Young kittens need to eat every few hours, because their tummies are so small. I like to feed them canned food several times a day but also have a bowl of dry food available for them to munch on whenever they wish.

About dog health

The dog is a man's best friend. It is essential for a person to have a pet if he or she is wishes selfless companionship. Small dogs, though not as tough as strong as the bigger dogs, do offer companionship and are more interesting to have. It's not for nothing that these dogs are sometimes called companion dogs, as these dogs are mainly used for companionship as a pet, and not the other attributes of a dog such as safety and security. Apart from companion dogs, there are other smaller dogs, termed as toy dogs that are used strictly for companionship. Here is some information on the different types of small dogs

There are many different types of dogs, with over 150 recognized breeds as well as many more different variants.
Dogs of the same genetic history are group into types, such as Molosser, Spitz etc.  These dogs will tend to have similar characteristics, health issues and natures.  All dogs are not the same, with the different types having very different life spans, characteristics, suitability to different conditions and more.   Before you choose a dog, consider choosing a dog type!
http://www.dogbreedss.org/types-of-dogs.htm

Like human health problems, some dog diseases , injuries and physical ailments are serious while others are not. Fortunately, the vast majority of health problems that dogs commonly experience can be successfully treated with medications, physical therapy, surgery, or other types of medical treatments.

Unfortunately, since animals can¡¯t talk, it¡¯s often very difficult to detect what type health problems dogs may be experiencing. We have, however, compiled the following list of common healthcare problems to help you detect and better understand possible problems that could affect your dog¡¯s health and overall wellness.

http://www.dogbreedss.org/dog-diseases.htm

If your dog is showing any of the symptoms that we have described for the various diseases and physical abnormalities listed below, it¡¯s very important that you take your dog to see its vet at the earliest possible time. Early treatment will not only greatly improve your dog¡¯s chances for a quick and complete recovery, but it could very well save your dog¡¯s life.

Diseases in dogs may occur because of trauma, infection, immune system abnormalities, genetic factors, cancer, or degenerative conditions, to name a few. Learn about how the normal body systems work, disease symptoms, and how to care for a sick dog.

Disorders of the eye can be congenital, infectious, neoplastic, traumatic, immunologic, or idiopathic (of unknown cause). Some have no health implications, others can cause blindness.

Dog diseases - Dogs who are sick are generally obvious. One easy way to spot if your dog is sick at all is to watch him or her eat and exercise. A sick dog will be listless or show very reluctant enthusiasm. If your dog eats without any lustre, it is possible that he or she has become ill. Other symptoms of sickness include pale gums and a whiter than usual tongue, duller than standard eyes, and a dry coat. Sick dogs also often suffer from a fever.

http://catwebsite.googlepages.com/funny_cat_pictures.htm

We offer many funny cat names along with over 2000 other cat names.

Remember that whatever name you choose, it will be your cat's name for life.

Just as you are making a life-long commitment to your new cat or kitten to take care of her to the best of your ability, you are also making a life-long commitment to the name. It isn't fair or useful to try to change your cat's name two years later when you stumble across another name that you just must use for someone.

And, even if you find that several months later, the name you've chosen just doesn't fit your cat, remember, to your cat it's just a neutral sound. It has no particular connotation or meaning, good or bad.

So it's best for your cat if you do not change her name mid-stream. This is another reason that it's best to keep the name your cat already has if you are adopting her from previous parents.

Cat names are easy enough for your cat to learn. The strategy is to get your cat to link pleasurable things with her name. For example, you can try these steps:

Spend quality time with your cat petting her while you gently, soothingly repeat her name over and over.

When you call your cat by her name, and she comes, give her a healthy treat. You can do this the first few times when she comes. Then only sporadically give her a treat. After a while you can taper off the treats and she will still come to you (probably-read the next section on training cats to come).

Use your cat's name when calling her to dinner.
These may sound like bribes, and if fact they are. In my personal experience with cats over many, many years, it seems that petting and repeating the name over and over works very well.

You can name a cat by its qualities or appearance, for example, a speedy cat could be called "Speedy", or a furry cat could be called "Fluffy". For more exotic names, try translating words that describe your cat into other languages.
Consider choosing a name that is short, of one syllable. For example: Sam, Socks, Scout, Peach. Two syllable name examples: Tony, Daisy, Lonnie, PJ. Cats have extremely sensitive hearing and they pick up your voice and tone quick enough to respond to the shortest names. (A name you can say quickly is also important for when you need to tell your cat to stop doing something.)
Bonus to above tip is that when you want to have an identification tag made with your cat's name on it, a short name will fit easily.
If possible, add an "S" to the name. Many cats like the sound of an "S" and will be more likely to get used to their name if it has a sound they prefer.
Always relate your cat's name to positive behavior which encourages him or her to respond willingly when called by name.
Do not use her name when discouraging bad behaviors. He or she will associate his or her name with a negative thought, feeling and action and not want to hear it again.
The same rule applies with a silly name (i.e., anything that will make others laugh when they hear it). The cat will not accept their name if it is mocked.

Cats Named for Looks or Personality Traits

Bubba Because he seemed like a "Bubba" kinda guy
Malcolm "probably because he looks like he's wearing a tux and he's a charming cad"
Clawed a play on words?
Agrippa another?
Trouble (pretty self-explanatory)
Mayhem "(probable mama of Trouble)"
Paranoia "would vanish under the verandah when he saw you even look at him)"
Snow Balls "a hulking (white) battlescarred tom, I called Snow Balls until yesterday, when he became 'SNo Balls."
Tyranny "because she was such a little tyrant as a baby"
Cassidy "short for Perspicacity"
Jasmine "She was such a beautiful kitten, her name just fit"
Tequila "She was so fiesty and fiery, just like a shot of tequila going down"
Dexter "he is such a little masculine rough and tumble guy, Dexter just seems appropriate"
Oreo a natural for black and white cats
S'Mores "because she had the colors of a S'mores (graham cracker tan, chocolate brown, marshmellow white)"

Green Puppy - A green puppy was born in New Orleans last week. Shown in this video and pictures, the puppy is one of five puppies born to a mixed breed mother and is the only green puppy in the litter.

The green puppy was the only one affected since the other puppies are brown, tan, and white.

About the New Orleans green puppy   Louisiana SPCA CEO Anna Zorrilla said, ¡°It¡¯s surprising, alarming to see. Sometimes, when a puppy is born, the amniotic fluid mixes with the placenta and dyes the coat of the puppy and it almost always happens to very light colored puppies. There are not health concerns, it¡¯s really just a discoloration in the birthing process.¡±-- http://www.dogbreedss.org/green-puppy.htm

We hope that you enjoy your visit to our dog and puppy information site today, and that you'll drop by again soon and often to see what's new on this growing portal for dog lovers!

You are going to need your long leash and a dog bed, old cover, or pillow. It is also important that you start this training in the same area where you keep your puppy's crate; just in case you become bewildered and need to remove the puppy away from your swelling frustration.
FOUR - Once you are sure that your puppy is securely attached to its leash, the real training will start. Do not touch the leash!  That's right; drop it and leave it on the floor. Only use the leash if you must catch the puppy after it has darted off.  The goal of this training session is to help your puppy connect with you, not the leash in your hand or the treats in your pocket. To successfully establish this connection you must train naked (so to speak). Use your hands and your voice as your only two active training tools.

Walk up to your puppy and while doing so, ask your friend to let the puppy go (you will only need another person to help you with this training the first time you try it).  If your puppy runs to you simply take it back to its pillow, but do so without using the leash. If your puppy is small you can simply pick it up and place it back down on the pillow. If the puppy is large you will need to be inventive. That's ok so long as you use your naked.

Once you have asked your dog to stay in place, slowly back away from him, but watch him carefully. Very carefully. If you are astute you will be able to see when your puppy thinks about moving. Yes, you can read your puppy's mind. How?  Puppies do what they are thinking about, this is especially true if your puppy is not trained or very young. The moment a puppy thinks about moving, it will act on impulse to move.  If you are able to see the subtle changes in your puppy's body posture before it moves off the pillow, you can then correct your puppy before it has a chance to dart off.  Always remember, when dealing with dogs their actions, however unwanted, are never the problem. The real problem with disobedient dogs rests in the impulses that cause the actions to occur.

So there you are, watching your puppy sit on the pillow, as you slowly back away from the pup.              nothing at all. Zip the lips. Not a word. Here is where you work in complete silence. Without saying a word, rush towards your puppy. Pick it up (if it is small), or take hold of the collar and quickly guide it back to where it was first placed. You must move fast. If you are able run, if you are disabled limp as fast as your wooden leg will carry you. Just get the puppy fast and place it back on the spot where you left it.

Here is where the real training starts. Be warned, the repetition that is about to follow can be exhausting for you and the puppy. In a few seconds your puppy's natural resistance is going to bubble to the surface like an overflow of molten lava. The second your puppy understands that you want it to stay, it will try to move. It will dash, dart, zip and zoom in every and any direction to get away from you. And when you think the zipping is bad.... hold on to your halos ladies, the nipping can be awful.

It is important that your puppy learn early on what is considered acceptable behavior in your home. Failure to teach your dog the rules of the house when he is young can result in an unmanageable grown dog.

If you expect your puppy to sleep in a dog bed or crate, make sure you enforce that behavior from day one. Your puppy might cry in response to separation from mother or littermates. A hot water bottle and plenty of TLC should provide some comfort. Be sure the bed or crate is located in a warm area free of drafts.

Some people do not mind having their dog on the couch. For other people, a pet on the furniture would be an intolerable nuisance. Decide now what your household policy will be and enforce this from the start.

The same holds true for begging at the table, jumping on people, and other objectionable behaviors. If you don't want your puppy to learn any of these habits, make sure your rules are obeyed from the beginning.

Signs of dog pregnancy

Helping The Mother Dog Give Birth - dog pregnancy

If that doesn't tune you in, perhaps, when her nipples slightly enlarge, you'll get 'it'. When a clear mucus vaginal discharge starts four to five weeks into pregnancy, you'd really have to be inattentive not to notice! Btw, the discharge continues until the dog gives birth.
Pregnancy is the period of gestation when the young are developing in the mother's uterus. Normal gestation in dogs is 58 to 68 days (the average is 63 days).

The litter size in dogs varies from one puppy to more than 17 in some giant breed dogs. Litter sizes are often smaller in young and old animals and largest when the mother is around three to four years of age.
Conditions that may be confused with pregnancy include false pregnancy, mastitis (inflammation of the mammary glands), mammary gland neoplasia (cancer), abdominal enlargement due to fluid accumulation or organ enlargement, or pyometra (infection of the uterus).

The more that you can learn about whelping the better prepared you will be for any difficulties that might occur. Once you know that your bitch is pregnant, you should begin preparing for the puppies delivery.

Dog pregnancy symptoms - Your dog may not show many obvious symptoms that she is pregnant during the first three weeks that she's become pregnant. Maybe she is more affectionate with you and a little hungrier

Once the puppy has been cleaned, check to make sure that he is breathing properly.  If he looks normal but appears weak or lifeless, gently but firmly massage him with a towel, particularly around the head and the chest.  A puppy that stays in the birth canal for a long period of time results in a lack of oxygen to the brain.
If he is still not breathing after you are finished rubbing him with a towel, suspend him by his hind legs for a few seconds to allow the fluids to drain from the air passages.  Gently shake him while keeping a secure grip on his hind legs.  This should stimulate him to start breathing.  Once the puppy is breathing, keep him warm and comfortable by wrapping him in a towel until the mother has finished giving birth.  When the whelping has finished, show the weak puppy to his mother and make sure that he finds a productive nipple.  Observe him for a few days to ensure that he is not bullied by stronger puppies in the litter.
The mother normally chews through the umbilical cord.  If she does not, you can tie off the cord using a thread about 2 inches from the puppy¡¯s belly and then cut it on the opposite side of the knot, away from the puppy.  Be very careful when doing this and do not pull on the umbilical cord.

In appearance, Cornish Rex cats are a study in curves starting most noticeably with their coat which ideally falls in washboard waves. The coat is very short, lies close to the body and is incredibly soft to the touch, prompting comparisons to cut velvet, karakul lamb, rabbit fur or silk. In fact, it feels like a Cornish Rex coat and nothing else is the same. There is even variation among individuals within the breed.

In addition to the coat, this breed has a distinct head and body type. Large ears are set high on a comparatively small, egg-shaped head with high cheekbones, hollow cheeks, and a high-bridged Roman nose and strong chin. The body has been compared to a Whippet dog¡¯s because of its arched back, barrel chest, small waist and very long, fine legs. In spite of their dainty appearance, these small to medium sized cats are extremely hard-bodied and muscular, using their well developed hips and long legs for fast starts and stops, quick turns and high jumps.

In personality, the Cornish Rex is extremely affectionate and people-oriented. They are also active cats whose kitten-like antics last for their lifetime and who can be very inventive in their play. Favorite Cornish Rex games are fetch, catch and even ¡°discus,¡± in which the cat uses its hand-like paw to pick up and toss a small object. In spite of their sophisticated, elegant appearance, Cornish Rex cats are anything but cool, aloof or dignified. They are perfect pets for the owner who wants active cats to participate in family life.

Because of their extremely short, fine textured coat, many people have the impression that the Cornish Rex does not shed and is hypoallergenic. This is not strictly true. All animals are constantly renewing their coats as old hairs are replaced by new ones. While Cornish Rex hairs are not easy to find lying on the furniture, they are there and owners will find them in the dryer filter and clinging to some fabrics. Certainly, by comparison to some other cats, the shedding is minimal. Even so, most allergic people are bothered by the dander (dead skin cells) and the saliva, both of which are present in Cornish Rex cats. Policies concerning allergy sales vary from breeder to breeder and potential buyers should realize each breeder does what he or she feels is in the cats¡¯ best interest.

Pricing on Cornish Rex depends on type, applicable markings and bloodlines distinguished by Grand Champion (GC), National or Regional winning parentage (NW or RW) or of Distinguished Merit parentage (DM). The DM title is achieved by the dam (mother) having produced five CFA grand champion/premier or DM offspring, or sire (father) having produced fifteen CFA grand champion/premier (alter) or DM offspring. Usually breeders make kittens available between twelve and sixteen weeks of age. After twelve weeks, kittens have had their basic inoculations and developed the physical and social stability needed for a new environment, showing, or being transported by air. Keeping such a rare treasure indoors, neutering or spaying and providing acceptable surfaces (e.g. scratching posts) for the natural behavior of scratching (CFA disapproves of declawing or tendonectomy surgery) are essential elements for maintaining a healthy, long and joyful life.
